Spitfire 10K Run

This fantastic new event will be taking place at Cosford this September. Registration is now open and participants have the unique opportunity of running down the runway ar RAF Cosford. Participants are awarded a bespoke 2017 Spitfire 10K Medal.

Charity Open Day - 'Atonement' Ten Years On

3rd September 2017 - 3rd September 2017

A Charity Open Day at Stokesay Court, film location of 'Atonement' starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan, released 10 years ago. Raising funds for Alzheimer's Research UK and Signal-building deaf friendly communities. Tour the grounds with their many 'Atonement' locations, view the Great Hall and 'Atonement' exhibition in the house and have tea and cake in the Dining Room. "Free From" Cookery Course

Join Milly Rees for the Free From Gluten and Dairy Cookery Courses, back by popular demand! Using alternative ingredients, you will create delicious breakfasts, lunches, suppers and snacks that everyone can enjoy, whatever their diet- all gluten and dairy free. Take away all of the easy to follow recipes, feeling inspired to give them a go and share your skills at home. All dishes are also vegetarian so are perfect for if you want to cut down on the meat in your diet.

Heritage Open Day

As part of the popular nationwide Heritage Open Days celebration, St Mary’s Church in the centre of Shrewsbury will throw open its doors from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th September for special tours and talks. St Mary’s is the most complete medieval church in Shrewsbury, with world-famous stained glass. Secret Severn Art Trail

Shropshire Ride and Stride

Visit unique historic buildings, see beautiful countryside, get some exercise and have fun with the family! Ride+Stride is a sponsored bike ride or walk in which people all over England walk or cycle between churches, exploring and enjoying the countryside. The money they raise helps to save historic churches, chapels and meeting houses for future generations by helping to fund urgent repairs and occasionally the installation of modern facilities.

Proms and Prosseco in the Park

Timed to coincide with the Last Night of the Proms, the event features Soprano, Emily Haig, who recently performed the National Anthem at the 2017 FA Cup Final. Supporting Emily Haig are a variety of soloists and musicians including the Prima Wind Quintet from Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music, a string quartet from the Camerata of London and a wind quintet from the Amadeus Orchestra, the world’s foremost training orchestra. Proms and Prosecco in the Park runs from 2- 9pm with live music from 4pm with an array of food stalls, street food and retailers as well as bars featuring Gin, Prosecco and Craft Beers. Spectators are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and hamper, or even a table, chairs and candelabra to settle in for an afternoon of inspiring music and fabulous food, all in stunning parkland which becomes magical at nightfall. 

The Guildhall Open Day

Newport Town Council is to open its doors in the Historic Guildhall, High Street Newport, for guided tours, and a programme of activities’ for one day: Saturday 9th September 2017 from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm with support from the History Society who will provide information and facts on the unique architecture. Flight simulation event heads to Cosford

Aviation fans can experience the virtual skies in Shropshire next month as the Flight Sim 2017 event heads to the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford for a fifth consecutive year. Taking place on Saturday 7 October, aviation enthusiasts will enjoy a day packed with all the latest flight simulation software and the chance to test out their virtual flying skills.
