October Half Term at the Severn Valley Country Park
Date Posted: 14th October 2014Shropshire Council Rangers at Severn Valley Country Park in Alveley are gearing up for a spooky, fun filled week during October half term. There are a full range of events which offer something for everyone. The tea shop and visitor centre will be open 7 days during the school holidays.
Half term starts with an evening of stargazing on Saturday 25th October 2014. The Shropshire Astronomy Society and Carolian Astronomy Group will be on site to reveal the beauty of the night sky. In the visitor centre there will be a presentation and talk, and star gazing crafts for the children to get involved in. The event will run from 7.30pm-9.30pm and will cost £4.50 Adults, £3 Child, £12 Family (2 adults and up to 3 children). Each ticket includes 2 hot drinks to keep everyone warm!
There will be a fungus expert on hand on lead 2 walks on Tuesday 28th October (10.30am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-3.30pm). The walks will explore the park looking for the wide range of fungi which grow here. By the end of the walk you should be able to identify which are edible and which are not! £3 Adult £1.50 Child
Especially for the children, there will be 2 sessions of Halloween Fun on Wednesday 29th October (10am-12pm & 1.30pm-3.30pm). The activities will include making toffee apples, bobbing for apples and playing outdoor games such as witches broom relay race and pumpkin bowling. The cost is £3 per child.
For Halloween itself, on Friday 31st October, our rangers will be lantern making and leading a ghost story walk in to our woodland village. The event from 4.30pm-6.30pm will include sandwiches, pizza slice, drink and fairy cake in the £5 ticket price.
On Saturday 1st November (11am-12.30pm) we will be getting creative with a Halloween craft session where children can make their own spider, witch and ghost to take home.
Throughout the whole week, families will be able to enjoy a spooky Halloween trial. The trail weaves its way around the park following scary clues which, when solved, leads to a treat to collect from the visitor centre. Trail maps are £1.50 each and came be collected daily between 11am-4pm.
