Shrewsbury Scoops Gold!
The results were announced at a ceremony at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on September 11th 2014. Shrewsbury, Shropshire's county town was awarded Gold and nominated category winner in the Small City Category for centres with a population of between 35,001 and 100,000.
Heart of England in Bloom chairman Roger Bache said Shrewsbury could now claim to be not just a town of flowers, but THE town of flowers.
He said the town's displays had built on the floral legacy created by Percy Thrower and showed great attention to detail.
Judges visited Shrewsbury on July 22 when hundreds of floral hanging baskets, planters and containers throughout the town were judged against exacting criteria.
According to Heart of England, its Gold award is given to 'exceptional achievers who have demonstrated a consistently high standard in all areas of the judging criteria.'
Horticultural bosses say they are now keeping their green-fingers crossed that Shrewsbury will be crowned Champion of Champions when the results of this year's Britain in Bloom competition are announced on October 16.
Jackie Brennand, Shrewsbury in Bloom Chairman said: "This is another great result for Shrewsbury and ever more fitting to receive the accolade on home turf. Bloom has been about everybody working together and I extend my congratulations to everyone involved."

"This has been a great effort by Shrewsbury Town Council, Shropshire Council, residents, schools and businesses," he said.

And it's not only Shrewsbury to be congratulated as towns, villages, pubs and hotels across the county also won awards the annual Heart of England Britain in Bloom awards...
Eight pubs in Ludlow won certificates of merit in the Hotel and Pub Grounds section with the awards ranging from gold to bronze and the town itself won gold in the small town category, as did Newport and Bridgnorth.
In the large town category, Oswestry was awarded gold – for the 10th year running. Miss Betty Gull chairman of the Oswestry in Bloom committee said “The award is true recognition of the enormously hard work that is put in by our volunteers and by the people of Oswestry,”
