VIP Steam Engine Escort for Great British Spoon Gorilla A world-famous sculpture, created from the generosity of the children of Shropshire and those around the globe, will shortly make a VIP appearance at a prestigious local event - and has been visited by a very special escort!

The British Ironwork Centre’s spectacular Great British Spoon Gorilla will appear at Shrewsbury Steam Rally at Onslow Park on August 24th and 25th 2014 and has received a special visit from one of the stunning Steam Engines that will be on show for guests at the event.

The Centre was delighted to accept the invitation for the monstrous sculpture to appear at the event prior to beginning his tour of Children’s Hospitals and Hospices.

Clive Knowles, the Centre’s Chairman, said “We’re excited and feel very privileged to be taking the Great British Spoon Gorilla to Shrewsbury Steam Rally – it is a wonderful Shropshire event, with a very proud history. It has been wonderful to see the Steam Engine here today – the Gorilla has received such special treatment from the organising committee that he feels like a rock star!”

75 years on – the story behind Hampden P1344’s final flight

The Handley Page Hampden Bomber P1344 (PL-K), currently undergoing conservation at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be subject of a lecture taking place on Tuesday 5 September 2017. The lecture will be presented by the Museum’s Conservation Centre Manager who has personal experience working to restore the aircraft and with former crew and family members. The evening lecture will include details of the dramatic story behind its final flight, which took place exactly 75 years earlier, plus a behind the scenes look at how the aircraft looks today!
